Help and questions
Last updated: September 29, 2026.
Art Says Hi is available in your browser, with iOS and Android apps in development. These are the questions that come up most — about readings, photos, uncertainty, and what happens to what you send.
What does Art Says Hi do, and what can't it do?
Art Says Hi reads a photo of a painting, object, building, or everyday scene and returns a structured visual reading in three labelled layers: visible evidence, documented context, and interpretation. It gives you details to look for and a starting point for your own reading. It cannot authenticate, attribute, or value a work, it cannot prove where something came from, and it cannot replace a specialist or a museum record.
Why does a reading say “Confident”, “Probable”, or “Unplaced”?
That is the reading's provisional confidence — the model's own report of how settled the identification is, not a measured accuracy. “Unplaced” means the evidence did not support a name, so you get a careful description instead of a confident guess. Where details were not independently checked, the reading says so. Treat every label as a starting point and verify what matters against the listed sources.
What photos work best?
One clear subject in even light, without glare or deep shadow. Include the whole subject for identification and move closer for a detail. The scanner accepts JPEG, PNG, and WebP images up to 18 MB; a HEIC photo needs exporting as JPEG first, or you can upload a screenshot. The browser resizes your photo to a smaller working copy before anything is sent.
What happens to my photo when I start a reading?
The browser resizes it, then sends the working copy with your chosen subject and goal to our server, which passes it to the Qomza gateway so an AI model can return a structured reading. The gateway keeps complete requests and responses — including the image — indefinitely, as the Privacy Policy explains. The original file is never sent as an analytics event or to advertising services; optional session replay, only if you allow analytics, can capture the visible scanner preview. Your local reading history stores only the written text.
Why did my upload or reading fail?
The usual causes: the file is not a JPEG, PNG, or WebP — HEIC photos need converting first; the image is larger than 18 MB; several readings started inside a minute can hit the rate limit — wait a minute and try again; or the request timed out — a retried reading can take around a minute and a half. If it keeps failing, note the reference under Reading details and contact us.
Can I use a reading as professional advice or proof?
No. A reading is an exploratory starting point — not a provenance certificate, appraisal, valuation, or authentication, and a photograph cannot support those claims. Before a purchase, sale, insurance, donation, or publication decision, check the result against museum, archive, or catalogue records and ask a qualified appraiser or conservator.
How do I report a wrong result or a mistake in a guide?
Email us from the Report a problem section below. For a reading, the reference shown under Reading details identifies the same result you saw. Every report is read, and confirmed errors are corrected.
Are there mobile apps?
The iOS and Android apps are in development. The browser scanner is the complete product today: photo readings, saved history, and the full example library all work here now. The app guidance below applies to development builds.
Where is my reading history kept?
In this browser, on this device. History stores the written reading — its text and reference — not the photo, and it keeps your eight most recent readings. You can delete any reading in the list, and clearing the site's storage removes them all. Nothing in history is synced to an account.
How do I contact you?
Email hello@artsayshi.app. Questions, corrections, accessibility feedback, and privacy requests all reach the same address, and we aim to reply within a few working days.
Report a problem
A wrong reading or a guide error is worth an email. Write to hello@artsayshi.app with “Report a problem” in the subject, and include:
- the page address, or the reading reference shown under Reading details
- what seems wrong, and what you expected
- a link to the source or record that disagrees, if you have one
Please do not send personal information, passwords, or payment details — none of it is needed to check a result. Reports are read, and confirmed errors are corrected.
App help
The app asks for camera or photo access only when you choose an action that needs it. Notifications are optional and support Daily Spark reminders. Use Settings to review permissions, manage local preferences, or erase the app's local archive.
- Saved discoveries, collections, notes, and captured image copies are kept on the device in the current local first development build.
- Erase all data removes the local archive, image copies, settings, scheduled reminders, and local diagnostics from that device.
- The app does not require an account or provide cloud archive sync in the current development build.
